    I think the quality of what you fit will be dependent on what price bracket your house falls into and who your target audience is likely to be.
    If I were looking at a first time purchase in the lower price bracket, I would not expect solid wood floors and I would probably not affect the asking price very much by fitting it.
    I would fit what is likely to make your house more appealing and keep it neutral, laminate is far more likely to withstand wear than carpet and will look better for longer.
