polypropylene carpet smell

As title, I recently had a new carpet laid. In the past have had wool, but went for a cheaper option as it's a rarely-used spare room.
The smell was initially very strong. A week of constant airing has helped, but it's still very noticable especially once the windows are closed.
Is this normal and if so how long does it take to go?

It lasted a couple of weeks for us, when we redid the old house.0
