DVLA Issues

After a bit of advice please . Bought a car for my son in December ( 1 yr old Vauxhall) from a Vauxhall dealer . Part of the deal was 6 months Road Tax . All fine until letter from DVLA arrived yesterday saying car has not been taxed since 1st Jan and consequently fined . Now we got a receipt from the Vauxhall dealer and also checked online and up until yesterday everything matched . Now suddenly its showing the car is not taxed .
As my son had to get to work this morning I paid the fine last night and also put a year worth of Road tax on. Phoned DVLA first thing this morning and was basically told either pay the fine or dispute it and that could take up to 4 weeks . They were not very helpful at all.
Also phoned the Vauxhall dealer who are trying to help but did not get anywhere with DVLA either . We now have to write to DVLA who will review it but again it will take up to 4 weeks .
I am not happy especially considering I have had to pay twice for something . Any ideas as to how I can speed this process up ? Has anybody else had this problem?

I presume that what they did was knock the price for the tax off of the car.
it's the keepers responsibility to tax the vehicle. So there's literally no point in appealing it0 -
Sounds like it wasn't taxed for December either.0

Its not taxed the DVLA wont care what the dealer did or did not arrange with your. Your complaint and contact is with the dealer only.
Show them the fines and try to get your money back.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

The last 2 cars I bought the dealer taxed the vehicles. I paid for it and it was listed in the invoice but they taxed it for me and they would not release the car until it had been done.
Newman1000 Ask the dealer to check that the cheque was deposited and confirmation received from the post office they did it at. Or online if done online.0 -
Hi thanks for your replies . It was shown as taxed until June and we have the receipt showing the cost . It was knocked off the price of the car . I also checked this online on the Gov.uk website and as I said in my previous post it was showing as taxed until we got the letter and then suddenly the online notice changed to Untaxed.
The dealer is writing to the DVLA with proof of payment and I have asked for a copy of the letter. It will get resolved and I will get my money back . If it turns out to be the dealers fault I will make sure I am compensated accordingly and if it turns out to be the DVLA's fault ,well I suspect I may just be happy to get my money back.0 -

So it wasn't paid for then?
alternatively you said June and January, so was it 6 months tax, rather than 12?0 -
hi . Sorry if I did not make myself clear . I should have said 6 months Road tax was included within the cost of the car and I have the receipt from the Dealer to show it was paid for . I also checked the Gov website and it clearly showed the vehicle as taxed for 6 months . If the car was not taxed as DVLA says then I am confused as to why it took them two months to work this out and why it would have been shown as taxed .
I have spoken to DVLA again and they have said it apparently was not done "properly" but would not elaborate but this still does not answer why it was shown as taxed for so long0 -
A possibility is that the dealer taxed the car, but used the details from the main V5C and not the from the New Keeper Supplement.
When the DVLA processed the change of keeper, that tax would have been cancelled, leaving the car untaxed.0 -

Meaning the pervious keeper got refunded.0 -
Hi
you could very well be correct and that would explain why it was shown as taxed.
Anyway the car is taxed properly now ( Just waiting for DVLA to update website!!) and I will chase the dealer to make sure the letter is sent urgently . Thanks all for your replies0
