Gers, I can't tell you where to get them now, I've had mine for ages and I treasure them.. I remember as a child seeing housewives shaking their yellow dusters out of the windows. Not seen that for decades. I wonder where they shake them now.

I still shake mine out of the door, can't reach the windows though I did that in my previous house.

It's a strong memory for me too. I usually misjudged the wind direction and got a face full of stoor - dust.

I always shake mine out of the window :D, though now it's a micro fibre cloth in a variety of colours rather than a proper, thick yellow duster (although I know I do still have one, probably about 40 years old, somewhere in the cupboard under the kitchen sink)

Went down to Glasgow yesterday and got the white Lakeland dusters - they are lovely and just the correct thickness.

    Many thanks for the recommendations.

I am still using my DDs old cloth nappies circa 1967, I was given a dozen Harringtons ones when she was born and I bought another dozen and they did both of my DDs for their normal use and were relegated to my duster pillowcase when they were past using them. They are getting very thin now but I have used them as dusters and cleaning cloths for over 45 years so they don't owe me anything :) Brilliant for useing when leaning windows as well and I just chuck the whole lot into a boil wash and they come up nice and white .My neighbour used to look over the fence and wonder where my babes were when they were hanging blowing on the line :) especially when I retired in 1995 and moved down into Kent from London :):):)
