LG TV broken outside guarantee

Options
We bought a 60" LG plasma tv model 60PB660V from Currys for £599 on the 22nd Jan 2015 using a Mastercard. This TV came with a manufacturer 2 year guarantee which ran out on the 22nd Jan 2017.

On the 22nd Feb 2017 the tv stopped working and we contacted LG to see if they would be able to repair. The part required is unavailable so LG have declined to provide a quote for repair.

My question is
Is two years a reasonable amount of time for a £600 tv to last or do we have any other options to seek a replacement?

    You have other options.

You have up to six years to seek a remedy from the seller under The Sale of Goods Act.

Have you spoken to Currys yet?

Before doing so, you might like to read MSE's Consumer Rights guide, noting in particular this bit:
    Know who's responsible

When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!

If a company fobs you off by saying “go to the maker instead”, it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.

It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with it.

You need to prove that the fault is an inherent manufacturing fault.

Also £600 for a 60" TV is not a lot, while £600 is a lot of money to most, 60" is huge, and would reflect in the quality of the goods. so even if you did prove it was a manufacturing defect the expected life of the goods could be argued to be 4-5 years so any refund could be very reduced.
  • This is why it's always best to get a 5 year warranty via John Lewis or Richer Sounds. I've spent >£500 on my last two TVs. Both had problems after about 2 years, and both were fixed.

Unfortunately, I do not think TVs are meant to last many years anymore
  • We've spoken to Currys and they're not interested. Referred us to a third party repairer.
  • Why? Are they saying its not an inherent fault?
