Windows 10 reset

Options
Hi.

Attempting to reset W10 with the reset, remove all files, and clean the drive options.

Seems to go ok at first but it then stops about 3% in and gives the message - Your PC has been reset but we couldn't remove all your personal files. If you plan to give away or recycle the PC, try resetting again.

I tried a second time and it told me that it couldn't reset the pc at all. Third time was a repeat of the first.

I'm using a W10 ISO created from the MS site and it is as been successful previously.

Any ideas on what is or isn't going on here??

Thanks.

Do a clean install rather than reset(removing files). Why are you doing a reset?
    EDIT: may help: https://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/71771-reset-pc-vs-clean-install-win10.html

  • So clean install by booting from the disc?

Wanting to do a wipe as passing the machine on.

Yep. You'll get the option to delete/reformat. And you'll end up with a usable installation (if that is what you want); empty space may still need cleaning if you're parnoid about the next person undeleting stuff.

  • Depending on who you are passing the machine onto either

take the HD out completely if you intend to resell/junk it

or wipe it securely/reformat (depending whats on it) if you are giving it to a family member.

I always remove the HD and use them for backups.
  • Cheers.

It's going to a family member, I doubt they'd try to recover old stuff (intentionally) and all they'd get is old money spreadsheets, holiday snaps etc, but I'd rather limit what is left on there.
