Cat on table / kitchen surfaces

Options
Looking for suggestions please.
Since we moved house our cat walks over the living room table and climbs up and walks all over the kitchen work surfaces. I don't like this as I think its unhygienic. I tell her to get off which she does if you gently push her but 5 mins later she does it again. She never did it in our old house.
How can I get her to stop? Repeating telling her to get off just doesn't work. I thought about a water spray but I don't want to scare her!

She's just getting used to her new surroundings.

I use an 'indoor plant sprayer' - mine knows now what's coming with the sound of the trigger being squeezed!

  • I used a plant mister to train mine to stay off the kitchen work surfaces. They only got sprayed once each. Seeing me pick it up was enough for them to get down after that (and that was only a handful of times).
  • Another vote for the plant sprayer. Or the opening of a lemonade bottle. Has the same effect on mine.
