Sounds more like they don't want to do the work. He's authorising the information about him to be released bu they still refuse to do it! It would take them 5/10 minutes to do it I would imagine. Don't they realise this is people lives they are messing with?

Is it worth writing to someone further up the chain?

I can understand why HR can't be spending five to ten minutes going through old records to supply information, what if all employees demanded this. To stop that happening they have decided only to release the standard reply. This is also true of my employer. At least I know that no information about my wages or conditions will ever be released.

I can't imagine the situation would happen often enough to be a problem and if the employee authorises it then they have control over the release of the information.

He has the control over his information being released to him. Leeds don't want it from him.

We told them the situation on Monday and we've heard nothing back from Leeds. We supplied the figures HR gave him. Husband doesn't want to call leeds (I can't as it's his mortgage) as he says they'd have called him if there was anything, I'm not so sure.

    **UPDATE**

Email received today with mortgage offer. They decided to go ahead without the reference! Full LTV! Pretty chuffed as I have done it all without a broker. Will also add, I definitely couldn't do this as a job!
