If I had to have a tyre blow out on me in the fast lane of the M4, I would far rather have a rear tyre go. Front tyre blowout = almost certain disaster, and skill not relevant. Rear tyre blowout might be saveable.
Sorry but you're completely wrong. Front tyre blowout is going to result in the steering pulling to one side which you'll quickly compensate for. Rear tyre blowout at 70MPH is likely to result in a spin.
There was a good episode of Traffic Cops where a police BMW had a rear tyre blowout at motorway speed and it immediately put him in a spin. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I should have been more specific - it was actually a small nick in the tread not the sidewall.
Same applies. If its not down to the chord then don't worry. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I was careful to say 'almost' and 'might', as this has never happened to me, and I hope it never does. My observation was based on a long journey I did in a BL Mini where one of the rear tyres was almost completely deflated and I didn't even notice until I got out at my destination - very little weight over the corner meant that the wheel was largely there just to stop the body scraping on the floor. A rear blowout on that car would have been (I guess) quite saveable.Sorry but you're completely wrong. A much heavier car like a BMW, with rear-wheel drive and more of the weight over the rear axle would be very different. I am happy to acknowledge that.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
