Should We Get Rid of the Required Yearly MOT Test?

In fairness my first car was an old modded mini on drum brakes, no PAS, ABS etc and likewise it didnt kill me.
Not sure i'd want to be out in one in modern motorway traffic though...
Oh, I don't know. Never had any concerns even in central London traffic, North Circular, etc. Wouldnt worry me keeping up with today's traffic if I'm honest.0 -

Its all the other gits who can stop suddenly that would worry me.
But yes, i take your point. And it was meant as a throw away idle comment rather than professing a firmly held belief.
Probably the most fun i've had has been in simpler cars ...0 -

Mm, they were great fun. Used to enjoy the simplicity of things. Car not running well, adjust points. Car not starting, dry distributor cap... Simpler times.0 -

As opposed to now?
Car won't start = call breakdown service
Flat tyre = call breakdown service
Something else goes wrong = buy a new car“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Some people drive around with ABS lights and ESP lights on for months, with less checks it could turn to years therefore more dangerous, plus some cars do starship it miles, plus a service at a garage now is little more than oil and filter change,
All this combined I think yearly mots are wanted from first registration. In fact the only value for money expenditure on a car now is the mot0 -
Also, what percentage of accidents are caused purely by excess speed, rather than excess speed for the prevalent conditions?
If speed in itself were dangerous, then Concorde would have been the most dangerous vehicle ever built.
In accidents in which speed is a factor, it is always speed relative to the vehicle's limitations and the road conditions.
I'm trying to think of a scenario where a vehicle has an accident caused by excessive speed, where the vehicle itself or the road conditions were not a factor, and I am struggling. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -

Err, no. I wouldn't call a breakdown service for either of those, and I only replace my car when I get bored, never when there's something wrong.0 -
What percentage? Zero.

I would argue it's the drivers limitations rather than the car, knowing what to do when a car starts to loose stability. For example most people stand on the brakes if they start to slide, worst thing you can do.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
