Bt ridiculous £9.99 modem delivery charge

How are BT allowed to charge £9.99 delivery charge for their modem for new customers?
They clearly state that you do not need to be home to SIGN for the delivery.
I am wondering which company they use that charges this ridiculous amount?
Or are they lying to get a better income on deliveries?

The modem which costs them more than £9.99 which you get for free? If you had your own you could use that then you wouldn't have to pay the charge. You don't have to use a BT modem with BT broadband or even BT Infinity.

If you think that charging £9.99 in total to supply and deliver an ADSL2+/VDSL2 802.11AC router with 4x 1Gbit LAN ports and a USB3 port for a printer/memory stick is a way to get more income then I'd love to know where you think you can buy a similar specced one from and still make a profit at that price.

Yes, but why can't BT just come clean on it and state that the modem will cost you £9.99 including delivery.

I know for a fact that they just come ordinary Royal Mail post.

They say it's just a delivery charge. NOT a cost for the modem too. That's why I am asking! They mention nothing about any charges for the modem itself!

They can't charge for the modem as they can ask for it back if you leave mid contract.

£10 covers setup of router, packaging dispatch.

Anyway I'm sure you will have more to worry about if your a BT customer!

That can not be true as they clearly state that it is a delivery charge ONLY!
    It's just misleading and unfair

I have sympathy with the original poster. Its just a made up charge to complicate the whole thing and make it harder to compare and switch between providers.

I signed up to them two months ago, £60 setup fee with the router (which I did not need but no option to not have it). All I was doing was moving an existing fibre connection from one bt owned isp to another.

They give you a prepaid £100 credit card with one hand while taking away £60 setup with the other? There is no logic its just irritating.

Now after two months they are changing their prices and letting me leave at which point I will have paid £60 setup for three months internet and if I move to EE another Bt owned isp they will charge me yet another setup fee!!

Other ISPs have this delivery charge for their router. BT don't have the monopoly

    Exactly.

A one off cost of less than £10. It's hardly a deal breaker

Because as a business, like any other business, they are free to charge what they wish in order to make a profit. If people don't want to pay it, then there are plenty of other ISPs they can choose to go with.

BT won't pay anywhere near £100 for the pre paid Mastercard though. The actual cost to them will be much lower.

You don't have to leave just because they give you that option though. People have got a better deal with BT by haggling instead of actually leaving. If you decide to go with EE though don't forget cashback. That would probably cover the set up cost.
