Private registration.

Hi, I have a private reg that I received as a present 8 years ago, it's on my current car.
The reg is x21 xxx (x represents letters) it's on a 2015 car.
I was wondering what happens in 4 years time when the new reg 21 comes out on new cars and I still have my current car ?.

Am going email dvla later on asking them for advice, I know got some years yet but just crossed my mind as sorted a plate out for my sister and got me thinking.

There will be no conflict

New plate: AB21 XYZ
Your plate: A21 XYZ

No different from any car with the previous registration system.

Nothing will happen at all, as there is no problem. Your reg has one digit before the 21, the new ones will have two.

Your plate will be as legal as it is now, as the 21 plates will have different number format

21 plate from March 2021 to August 2021
71 plate from September 2021 to March 2022

XX21XXX or XX71XXX:)
