Any Mooncup Users - Need some help! (tmi alert - not for men!!)

Options
:o:o Do any of you use the 'mooncup' thingy - I bought one and started to use it yesterday but find it difficult to get 'in and out' it is actually quite uncomfortable (actually a bit painful) to get out!! also can anyone tell me how far you are supposed to insert it, is the pully out thing meant to be out or in as such....

Sorry for so much info, I want to use this but could do with finding out if it gets easier to use...

Have done a search on here but found only references to using it/moneysaving:o :o

    Hi orchid,

I've moved your thread over to the Green and Ethical board and I'll pm the board guides there to ask them to merge it with the original thread where you are more likely to get replies.

I was advised (by someone who had used one for MANY years) to cut the stalk off almost completely and shove it up as far as possible... turn a little bit to make sure it is fully opened.

To get out.. grasp the bottom and squeeze gently to break the suction and ease out..

It usually takes 2-3 months to get used to it but most people find them wonderful after that!

  • Hi
I use a moon cup - best thing I ever bought! But they do take a little getting used to. When I put it in the stem sticks out a little tiny bit, but my body seems to "suck" it in a bit while I'm wearing it. To get it out you need to push a it a little way with your muscles, I can't explain this very well, then squeeze the base of the bowl between your fingers and twist a little way to break the suction and ease out. Don't pull the stem!! This hurts and can cause problems, I know some people cut the stem off, I haven't though I think I trimmed a centimeter or less off.

To insert, fold it in half lengthways, then fold the rim again so the top circumference is quartered, and push while holding yourself open with the other hand. No graceful way of doing it, I'm afraid; it's a two-hand job. Putting one foot up on the toilet seat helps. As has been said, you need to break the suction to get it out - I used to squeeze the cup part. Ease it out gently; don't whip it out with a flourish because you'll be redecorating!

  • Thanks all Sola - Redecorating :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I will read more on the linked thread, I was actually pulling out by the stem (albeit as gentle as possible) and I wondered how people were managing once they had 'snipped this bit off' didn't know about the suction thing - will give it another go.....

it has to be totally inserted, if you have anything sticking out at all, its gonna dig in and hurt.

to remove, you need to break the suction. i find squeezing the base of the cup and pushing in one side is enough to break the seal, and then pull it out, still holding the base of the cup. i use the stem, more for grabbing hold of, to get it down a bit, so i can reach the base. if like me, you find it goes quite far in, then bearing down really helps. mooncups are great for working those pelvic floors

This bit is very good advise, wish someone had told me this before I got my mooncup (won't go into details, but I learnt the lesson of slow and gentle the hard way!!)

As the others say, push it in a little to break the suction. I was worried about cutting the stalk off, but found that it actually made putting it in/pulling it out easier.

    Bit graphic but...
I find that gripping the base to release the suction and pulling it down a little then using my finger to fold the rim in a bit helps. I found the rim was too big and hurting me when I took it out and this method decreased the circumference. Hope that makes sense/helps!
