Do I Need to Apply for Probate ?

Options
Hello,

I'm looking for some advice and guidance regarding probate.

My father died earlier this month, he had two assets; his share of the family home (shared with my mother and mortgage free) and his share of the cash held in two joint bank accounts (again with my mother). I have had the house valued, and both assets when added together are substantially less than £325,000 IHT threshold. My understanding is that both these assists will automatically pass to my mother. There are no other assets of any value, no shares, watches, cars, insurance policies etc.

My father left a will, which named my mother as the sole beneficiary of his estate.

My question is, do I need to apply for probate ?

Thanks.

Nic

Who is the named executor in the will?

Was the house held as Joint tenants or tenants in common.

Probate is unlikely to be needed but the house ownership does make a difference to the process, probate can make that simpler for the tenant in common case.
