Penalty fine for not renewing car tax

Hi,

Was just looking for some friendly advice. I have moved home twice in the last year; the first move was just after I received the renewal letter for my online road tax, but because the place I moved to was temporary, I admit that I didn't change the address for my car registration. In fact, in all of the chaos it slipped my mind completely. This year, I obviously didn't get a tax reminder to my new address, and as I was moving again it feel a little by the wayside. Once I had moved, I tried to find a way of paying my tax, but it is impossible without a new code from the V** something form that they send you as your reminder. I eventually managed to find a number to call and have paid, but they've applied a penalty. I understand that they don't have to take this off, and have already sent a letter asking them to reconsider due to the stressful circumstances, but this has been denied. Does anyone know if there is a way of getting the DVLA to withdraw the penalty; they do make it terribly difficult to pay them without that one letter, and also very difficult to change address etc.?

Thanks in advance.:o

  • It is not impossible to pay without a V11 reminder, you can still do it on line using your V5C which as registered keeper you should have.

Afraid you will just need to put this down to experience.

Sorry those excuses won't wash it's not difficult, and it's totally your responsibility.

Why on earth would they reconsider your case just because you moved house and found it stressful.

I managed to cancel my RFL from my sick bed in Spain when my car was written off. I am not sure you tried hard enough.
