Paying a monthly direct debit off the Credit Card

Is there any penalties or higher interest or such if you choose to pay your direct debit bills off your credit card instead of out of your current account?

Comments

  • I'm no credit guru but I don't believe you can set direct debits up from a credit card.

Unless you mean can you pay off a credit card using direct debit then yes this is possible

I assume you are talking about utility bills, mobile phone bills and suchlike.
If the organisation that provides the service accepts credit cards for payment then yes you can set up a CPA (equivalent of a direct debit but from a credit card) to pay them. If they don't accept credit cards then no, you can't. You will have to check individually with each provider. There may be an additional charge; again something to be checked on an individual basis.
There are no penalties or higher interest imposed by the credit card provider.
  • Thanks Ben, that's great that you have provided me with a name for what I want to do. Now I can check if my utility and bill providers accept CPA at no added cost.

This would allow me more flexibility to move my cash around from my current account to my other credit card so as to not incur interest as I know using one credit card to pay off another credit card or transferring money from one credit card to an outside bank account could affect my credit standing.

Don't ask your provider if they accept a CPA as they will not have a clue what you are talking about. Just ask if they take regular credit card payments, they will likely understand that.
