I was looking for another query so thought it worth posting here were it is relevant

The HMRC manual has a section on the transferable nil rate band and multiple spouses, I have not been through this recently but will probably be worth a read to get a feel for the way this works.

    https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/inheritance-tax-manual/ihtm43000

the new spouse administrator(when the time comes)may be able to make the claim going back is needed but that is something to check

if there is anything you are not sure of the manual is often a good place to look and get confused

For the missing Lloyds shares, you can't go to Lloyds themselves, you'll need to contact their registrars, Equiniti.

    (See Registrar Services).

Be warned that there is a good chance that they will make a charge for replacement of certificates.

Pretty sure I spoke to them yesterday. The number was on the dividend cheque letter (which hasn't been cashed yet). They confirmed the holding was as per the letter and that no other accounts exist. I may put a formal request into Lloyds and Equinti for them to check their records thoroughly for any other accounts in my grandfathers name as I'm still struggling to understand why the holding would be so small.

When I checked my grandmas will, the shares were mentioned there, but only by percentage distribution, so I could get them to check in her name too (I hold death certificates for both).

Just seems very odd that it would be such a small holding, they have been gifted through two wills and the latest one splits the proceeds four ways, which is equivalent to about £75.00 each, hardly seems worth him having held them considering the rest of his estate is more sizeable. Perhaps a conversation I should have had whilst he was still here :(

Wonder if there is a nominee account somewhere.

When holdings get split it is often cheaper to just split than cash in.
Lloyds used to be worth more.

£300 of Lloyds shares now were worth £3000 a decade ago.
