Buildings insurance - garden wall blown down?

Options
My house had a wall which connected to the back of the house and went around the back garden. In the storm we just had 'Doris' the wall came down. There was a small tree which was next to the wall which I think may have swayed into it and then everything came down.

Should I be covered by my buildings insurance?

My policy states I am covered from buildings only [not possesions] which reads as follows?

''Loss or damaged caused by earthquake ect ect storm, ect, ect, falling trees.''

Just by reading that I'm pretty sure I'm covered by is there any come back they might have to get out of it? Might they say I should not have had a small tree so close to a wall etc? And is a garden wall classed as part fo the building?

Also, the wall which came down has been there since the house was build - 1979.

You're probably covered, but just to check which insurer are you with?

You will need to read the whole section relating to storm and falling trees as sometimes the falling trees section only covers damage to the main property, and not boundary walls.

If they were going to say that then they would either have to have asked you about where your trees were in relation to your walls at the time you bought the policy (and you would have to have answered incorrectly); or there would have to be a clearly defined condition in the policy documents about minimum distances between trees and walls. Contrary to popular belief, insurers can't retrospectively invent exclusions which they didn't tell you about at the time you bought the policy.

Fences and hedges are often excluded from storm/falling tree damage cover - walls not so much from what I can see; though it would depend on the terms of your own specific policy. Who is the insurer?
