Well as they say then, you only get what you pay for.0 -
I have the option of a Motability car but OH (who is the driver, I'm not allowed to drive for medical reasons) says he doesn't want one. His car costs in total for insurance, service plan, warranty cover (inc breakdown) and finance £188 per month. For a broadly similar car (the more basic model, OH has the sports model so a higher spec) on Motability it would cost £229 plus fuel!
Sheesh- I can see now why he doesn't want one!
It's also his car to do with as he pleases.
Regarding 'unfair' and 'two tier' there are lots of unfair parts in benefits.
For instance (assuming two people with no contracted out pension payments):
Under the old system even with the same earned pension, based on NI payments, the one in rented accommodation can get a top up to help pay the rent.
Under the new system, both would get the equivalent of the topped up amount, even though the home owner does not have to meet the expense of rent and would, previously, have had a lower pension.0 -

It's a 1.33 Toyota Yaris hence cheap insurance. We live in a low risk area, OH has been driving for nearly 30 years, full NCB, no claims or points. £30 a month for service plan with the Toyota dealership which covers all his services and entitles him to money off the MOT, extended warranty which includes full breakdown cover with AA £31 per month, and 0% monthly finance of £100 per month.
and teddysmum- not sure what you mean by that? Yes his current car is his (well he's the keeper, it belongs to the finance company) but if we got a Motability car it would be me who would be the registered keeper although him driving it. I'm the one on Enhanced Mobility PIP- he's on Low Rate Mobility DLA hence why he pays privately for his car.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -

By 'his own' I meant family's own, but I assumed you meant lease with an intention to eventually own, in which case you could modify the car in any way you wished, without permission.0 -

Ah okay- no, he's handing the car back next year as it's on a PCP. He intends to continue in that vein.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
