Has anyone successfully reclaimed PPI from an Alliance and Leicester mortgage ie a mortgage that was taken out before they were sold to Santander ? If so would we have to look out the paperwork for this mortgage or should Santander be able to trace it ?

The majority of A&L mortgages were sold by mortgage brokers/advisers. Santander have no liability for any advice given on those. How did you buy your mortgage and MPPI policy? If so would we have to look out the paperwork for this mortgage or should Santander be able to trace it ?
MPPI doesnt usually appear on mortgage contracts as its a standalone product. That is one of a handful of reasons why my most MPPI complaints fail.
Did you actually have MPPI?
Was it sold by A&L or by a mortgage broker/adviser?
When did you buy it? (important as the 2005 regulation date could come into play)I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The mortgage that may possibly have PPI on probably finished about 20 yrs ago but we then remortgaged with them again a couple of times in their branch and via phone and those would have ended about 5/6 yrs ago. It was our first house and was indeed bought through a broker. I recall at the time that a condition of the mortgage was that we had to have their insurance but whether that would have included PPI I'm not sure.0

Typo. Meant no responsibility.
The lender only takes on liability for complaint on products their own staff sell. Not brokers. The broker has the liability in this case and you would complain to them. However, brokers were not regulated until Jan 2005. So, they do not have to consider complaints about things sold prior to that date.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
