Where to sell old Dinky toys

I have quite a few of my dad's Dinky toys to sell. A lot are in great condition, in there original boxes, where they came in them. All from the 1940's and 1950's.
A quick look on Toymart (I don't know if this gives accurate prices or not) suggests some are worth £400 odd. Probably have near 50 toys to sell.
Where is my best bet for this? I appreciate eBay should be good because of the national, and international coverage. But is it worth contacting specialist auction houses (I'm based in Essex)? Should I sell them individually or as a lot?
I've never sold anything more than a games console so I'm a bit lost as to where to go or what to do to get the best prices!
Thanks very much

A specialist auction would be able to tell you what they are likely to get and the best way to sell them (separately or singly). They also would have potential bidders nationally and internationally. It would also be quicker than selling them on Ebay.
If you Google toy auctions there should be some. I am sure there are some around the London area. I have never used them but hear Vectis Auctions a lot. I think they are based in the North but sure they would still be happy to consider selling your collection.0 -
Check their fees and buyers premium. My local auction place charges buyers 15% - 20% + 20% VAT. Plus they charge sellers £10 or £15. With minimum fees also Anything around the £30 mark and the seller gets virtually nothing.
Something sold for £20 and i thought unless they have a deal with them thats just cost them to sell it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Vintage toys in good condition in their original packaging are very collectable. I'm not sure which auctioneers are in Essex, but many have specialist toy sales which is where you should get the best prices.
The alternative us to sell them yourself on EBay, but you need to know exactly what you have before listing. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Depending on where you are in Essex you do have several auction houses. Staceys seems to have a good reputation , but I do also second the advice above to find a specialist auction.
There is a magazine on the market which I think is called Model Collector and they carry adverts for many of the specialist toy auctions.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
