A fund would give you actively managed without you having to do anything as it's all done by the fund manager?
Consider a global income fund like Artemis Global Equity Income or M&G's equivalent.

M&G's has beaten V100 over 1 3 & 5 years & YTD. If that continues for your 20+year span the diff could be massive...

Just saying you could consider.. DYOR.

I totally agree because I hold Artemis Global Income and it's been great!

Thought it was pretty clear: "...at the time I place the instruction ..."?
Date and time the order was placed is precisely what the order details on the iWeb site show.

I'm baffled by your continued insistence that this information is absent, then. Shrug.

It has done no better than the S&P500 so far.

How long have you had it? What % has it risen by in that time?

As the name suggest it is a global fund which only puts a portion of its money into the US because there are more countries in the world than just the US.

So, the fact that it didn't do better than the absolute best single-country index is not something that should be considered to be at all negative.

FWIW it did do every bit as well as the S&P500 (and better than the FTSE World index) for the first five years of its existence since launch in summer 2010. However, it did not keep pace with the S&P over the last two years because it was not gambling all-out on the US having the best stock market return and the greatest favourable currency movement for a UK investor. It was investing in income-generating shares the world over.

And looking forwards to the next few years (just like the last few) I expect most UK investors are not gambling all out on the US continuing to have the greatest stockmarket growth and greatest favourable currency movement over the coming years, and so the comparison to the S&P500 is somewhat naive - the index is not a comparable 'rival' to the fund.

I have invested in the fund for the past 5 years. Not sure exactly what percentage it has done it that time but it has done very well for me so I'm happy. You can get the exact figures from Trustnet?
  • I've gone for one of the vanguard targeted retirement funds instead. This way its even more fire and forget.

Just over 5 years. According to Trustnet over 5 years Artemis Global Income is 124.9% against 87.5% for VLS100!

Very interesting indeed. Will be interesting too to see how it fares when the markets crash (as with VLS100).

The types of equities that will do better in the crash will depend in the reason for the crash.
