Received parcel that is not for me???

Hi, I am new to the forum so my apologies if this post is in the wrong place!!
I have read a few similar stories on other sites but still unsure on what to do about the situation I am in.
A few days ago I received a calling card from a courier company through my door to say a parcel had been left with my neighbour. I only actually got the parcel the next day as my neighbour wasn't in when I called that night.
I am awaiting delivery of a few items from China at the moment including cosmetic bags. I brought the parcel in and opened it (I know I should have checked the label first but I didn't) it felt like a bag inside so I opened it thinking it must be the cosmetic bag I ordered. However it is a handbag that I have definitely not ordered, when i noticed this I checked the label, it's my address and someone else's name. I have checked with local neighbours, no one knows anyone living in the area with the name.
Now I know it is my responsibility to return it to the correct person, or if it isn't I don't think it is morally right to keep something that someone else has purchased.
So my question is how can I track where this thing came from? I have tried a few things and will list below.
Initially as I have said I asked neighbours, no one knows anyone by the name on the package.
Then I noticed a contact number next to this persons name, I called the number, no answer, so I text them to advise I thought I may have their parcel. But they have not replied.
I have also contacted the courier today to ask them about returning it to them, they said it was passed to them by another courier company and they had no information on the sender and could not disclose the other courier? As I had asked them for the other courier as they must have sender info??
So I am at a bit of a loss now, There is no invoice in the parcel, no returns label. tHERE IS A 'SENDER' address on the label, but on googling the address it looks like a sorting office for parcels that come from air mail? I could be wrong on this though. There is also a sticker on the parcel, but it is in chinese? and I do not understand it.
As a final attempt there is a number on the chinese label, I know EMS are the company that deals with most post coming from that area of the world, or so I have been told? I tried to track the parcel on EMS to see if they had sender info, but website says cannot be tracked.
So I am out of ideas? Anyone who has any ideas please let me know. Also, I am not looking for a way to keep this item, I do really want to get it to it's owner or the sender. It doesn't seem an expensive item but that is besides the point, I would hate if this happened to me and just want to unite a lady to her lost handbag
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry. My nan had a couple of dresses turned up years back that was the wrong post code as there's a few of the same street name but different area. We put them to one side but no one got in contact. If there's no return address I wouldn't worry - they will probably contact the company and find they have put the wrong address then they might come for it:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

I would wait until your real delivery turns up. Seems co incidental to me that whilst waiting for one bag another turns up!"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

It sounds like the seller of the bags may have mixed up the orders and sent someone else's to your address, it may be worth contacting them to find out.0

Seller probably sent the wrong item. If you like it and still want the original item probably worth ordering another.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Agree with the above, sounds like they've transposed the addresses on two items.0

Thank you for your responses, I will contact the seller of the bag I am waiting for and see if it was a mix up.0

As the order was from China, it is possible that they had language difficulties and didn't understand the difference between the two types of bag.
There are lots of odd, foreign (mainly Chinese) descriptions or incorrect photos showing, on Amazon offers.0 -
I ordered some supplies from a Christian website for church many years ago. I had the delivary sent to my parents as usually someone was in and I work full time. A couple of years later my mum signs for a delivery from the same company assuming I had done the same again. Thinking maybe they had sent me a cataloge or something I opened the parcel (it was addressed to me), I was supprised to find a hymn book. After ringing the company it appears that someone in my parents street ordered it and and as the post code was recognised by the system some one had thought it was my account and it was paid for by someone else but dispatched to me.
Mistakes do seem to happen in this way.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -

Yeah the language barrier can be a pain, especially when an items spec has changed. Maybe not noticeable to someone that doesnt use that item.
Bought some Radio Control stuff, needed female/female connectors and the listing did say F/F and showed the correct item. Seller virtually called me a liar and asked if i was trying to scam him. Send him pictures of the items and luckily they were labelled which he obviously recognised. A few emails later and he is still struggling to send me the correct cables. He refunded me and i got them elsewhere.
I have phases like that, but 2 packages have recently arrived on the 7th day all the way from China. Had UK sellers take longer than that.
Book ordered on the 17th from a business seller on Amazon and estimated delivery the 28th.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I too had something arrive from China or Hong Kong that I hadn't ordered. Some time later I had to report something I had ordered as not arriving. It's clear to me that the seller just sent me the wrong thing. Doubtless somebody else got my item.
Somebody selling stuff at 99p delivered from Hong Kong is likely to have a lot of orders to turn around and they are mostly in non-native script. Image how you'd get on handling swathes of orders all in Chinese script. I'm surprised that there aren't more problems.0
