Thrifty lass We have some neutral stuff we'll definitely keep and a lot of his other more boyish stuff too. I was always dressed in my older brother's stuff growing up, I preferred it as I was allowed to get muddy in them but not in my own more girly clothes :) We have stuff we were bought and given saying dude, little man and other most definitely male stuff that I would feel weird putting a girl in. Like it'd be trying too hard to say gender doesn't matter if that makes sense? I read a really interesting edition of National Geographic recently all on gender issues and they had a few bits on traditional girl and male colours in clothes/toys/etc.

Use it or lose it My inlaws were round for tea tonight and I was sure I had loads of potatoes but had 3, instead of nipping out to buy some I just used all the little bits of veg left that would've prob gone in a soup. We had tiny portions of cauliflower cheese, broccolli, green beans, carrots, peas, mash. It was like a Sunday roast tapas :) At least everything got used and eaten.

I did some food shopping yesterday, will have to tally up my receipts for the total- think about £38, and today we ran out of milk, I wouldn't have bothered as we're getting some delivered tomorrow but would've felt rude to deny the inlaws a brew so 67p ruined my NSD :rotfl:

I made a costume for little man's book day at nursery today, he was a grey and brown owl made from felt, sticky velcro and my glue gun. My mum came to help pick out colours and paid for it all which was unexpected. All I had to buy was some more glue sticks at £4.50 so that was good. Will be using them to make Xmas decorations and some kind of pressies this year. Counting it in my personal spends which at the moment I'm setting at £20 as know I've got that coming as birthday money. Loads of felt and velcro left too :)

    My 10 gratitudes:-

    A generous mum
A dry afternoon to start fence building
    A yummy tea
Our free meat box ( xmas pressie) that arrived today
Little man out like a light soon as he was in bed
Feeling rested after 2 days off
Only burning my arm once glue gunning ( a record for me)
Seeing the wild spring flowers poking through my will-be-a-garden
Finally getting round to bleaching bathroom grout and it looks like new
A wriggly bump reassuring me all is well

I saw a documentary one day with a similar topic. In Victorian times blue was for girls (quiet demure colour) and pink was for boys as it is loud and strong.

DD wore this morning turqious trousers, a minion t-shirt and a race car jumper. That's what you get when you let a 3-year old choose, now I know why I wasn't allowed till I was about 10 :rotfl:

yesterday wasn't an SFD and today I'm not sure yet. Not planning on spending. We'll go away to friends for the weekend so I won't be able to check in.

    Day Three
    Use it or lose it
Every house should have a button box (small tin will do). At least keep all the spare buttons that come with new clothes (often on the inside seam near the waist) in it - very annoying when you lose the original and then find the spare is gone too. Add buttons that come off any clothes you have worn to rags (zips too if you sew regularly - zips can be a difficult repair).

Even if you don't sew, a well stocked button box can keep small children amused for hours and the buttons can stand in for lost counters in games. Can also be used as craft materials (heart or letter shape filled in with buttons). You could also teach your children to sew (large button, large needle and a spare bit of cloth). Basic skills are so useful to pass on.

    Wellbeing Day Three
    Take a walk outdoors.

Does a run count mother? Or a long walk inside Bluewater?

Had a slightly more expensive morning than planned - shoes bought as instructed by DH for dinner tomorrow night. The outfit is 20yrs old so very MSE. I bought a pair early on but took them back when I found a cheaper more practical pair.

Had to buy lunch out, but snacked rather than ate at one of the restaurants so not too bad on wallet or waist.

Leaving now before I spend anything else.

  • Quick post.

Grateful for another NSD (up to 3 now but have to get petrol in morning before we head off, will just get up a tiny bit earlier), its the weekend, my lovely best friend who just listened to me rant for most of lunch time surprised he answers the phone to me anymore :rotfl::rotfl:

Made a curry last night to start using up some of the massive stock pile of spices in the cupboard, looking forward to having it this evening think it is always better on day two. Heading to the christening for a friends baby tomorrow, must get petrol en route as have avoided spending on it all week.

Thank you for the idea of a walk outside Mothernerd always feel so much better after it. Hopefully can drag someone with me for a chat as well.

Of course a run counts. DS1 did not sleep as a baby. He wanted to be close to me all the time but would be quiet in being pushed in his pram. On horrible days I would walk round W**lworth's or B**ts as they were the only two shops big enough to fit the pram.
