Question on write-off procedure
Hi experts
I have quick question(s). Last week crashed my car, other driver at fault, but they drive off and I have no witnesses, no details, so no choice but to claim on my own insurance.
To me the damage doesn't look unrepairable in comparison to the value, but the insurers claims management company have said its a write off based on some photos. I understand this is quite common.
It's set to be recovered, but the salvage company told me to send off the s.9 form, which doesn't seem right until we've settled.
A second question, the car on packers guide is forecourt £3,200, but with only a free membership that assumes 80k mileage, whereas I'm on less than a third of that. Anyone know how much the mileage factors in? The car has no faults at all

The repairer will have to send a detailed estimate to the insurance company Insurance in general will only repair up to 60% of market value. Plus of course you have to take your excess into consideration. Plus parts prices etc are not cheap some xenon headlights alone are usually £500 plus each.0

No sure I understand. I just don't understand why I'm being asked to 'scrap' the car before the report is done.
My excess is only £100, so not worried about that as such.
The damage is to the front wing, and is quite extensive. I don't know the repair cost, so I do appreciate that they may choose to write it off. Just concerned on the value.0 -
I'm in a similar situation. Front passenger wing damaged but not bad, headlight needs replacing but should be OK otherwise.
I want my vehicle back as my niece's boyfriend is a mechanic and he said he will help me get it fixed if I source the parts. Just waiting for an offer from the assessors.0 -
Whats an s.9 form?0

Firstly what is the age model and mileage of the car? secondly who took these pics of the car? Have you took it to a recommended repairer for a estimate who have then sent it down to your insurance company? There is nothing stopping you saying you want to keep the car you will get a much reduced settlement however you will then have some money to have the repair done by whom you wish. You may even make some money out of it. Plus do not take the intial offer argue the toss with them. As i said most insurance companies will only repair to 60% of value, for a new wing and paint to blend the door as well and maybe even the bonnet your looking at prob min 10 to 12 hours labour and £130 paint and materials plus the parts cost. Doesnt take alot to see a small repair like this hit £2k.0

It's late 2009, Hyundai i30, under 25k mileage
I took the pictures and sent them off. Once they got it they decided it was likely a total loss. ( in fairness there is a decent amount of damage)
Just concerned on the settlement calue0 -
sorry to say wont take much to write it off car is now 8 years old. What i would do is if the car is legally driveable get it estimated at a approved repairer failing that the insurance will arrange for it to be collected and estimated i dont quite get why you just left it to the insurance to sort it just seen a 09 plate Corsa tidy car low miles wanted new back bumper and a small dent on the back panel behind the bumper..............scrap thing is the insurance companies sell the salvage for reasonable money which alot of it goes to Poland and gets repaired and bought back here months later0
-
Well retail seems to be £4-5k for them.
It's definitely not drive able
I agree it'll be a c or d and be repaired at some point
Edit: meant 4-4.5k**0 -
At triple my mileage it gets to 3-3.5k
Nothing I've seen actually as low as 25k yet, but I've only looked briefly0
