I've been looking at internet security and quickly coming to the conclusion that a single AV product may not be enough. The issues I've been looking at (long story) are related to adware/url checking/java scripts. Firefox + noscript is one reasonably simple answer I've come up with.

You missed out Sophos which is now free for home use, not one of the more common ones on the High Street as it is more corporate biased but worth giving it a shot.
As for not needing an anti-virus because you are careful about the websites you visit is not good advice - when a major, reputable, site gets hacked and programmed to drop malware on your computer defender may pick it up but other software is more likely to keep you safe.
That said I don't think that there is any one solution that will do the job. A complete anti-malware solution will be one that comes from more than one vendor and will need common sense from the users of your computer.0 -

I agree. A case in point was I did a scan with MBAM which picked up a few PUPs, installed without my consent when installing pucker programs, then did another scan with SuperAntiSpyware which picked up a couple missed by MBAM.You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

I have just purchased new laptop that comes with 30 days free Norton security and Windows Defender. When I tried to turn on the periodic scanning on Windows Defender, I immediately had a pop-up from Norton saying that Windows Defender wasnt as good as Norton and that I should turn off periodic scanning lol0

I also been involved in security for many years, mainly as a bouncer for Mothercare.
I know this post is from earlier in the year but i just had to ask how many computer viruses you kicked out of Mothercare as a bouncer?. That has to be one of the tenuous reasons i have heard for why someone is experienced in computer viruses :rotfl: .Perhaps I was being over enthusiastic in suggesting Youtube, but this could be potentially a threat in the not too distant future.
You posted alot of information but if you read it then you would see it related to modified video files. When you upload a video to Youtube they convert it to another format so this 100% does not apply and never will.0
