Second hand diesel car

Used modern diesel = money pit . Get a petrol
I disagree. A neglected modern diesel, or one used inappropriately by its previous owner(s) may well be a 'money pit'. Find a looked after diesel which hasn't been used just for trundling to the corner shop and back once a week and there's no reason it should be any more costly to own than a petrol car.
I've owned loads of diesels of all ages including DPF and non-DPF, common rail and non-common rail, automatic and manual, pre and post-EGR, and none have been 'money pits'.0 -
And if it's an internet myth, please someone tell Skoda. The handbook instructions for my wife's car say that when the DPF light comes on, the car should be driven at 2500+ revs in 3rd gear for 5-6 miles (from memory).
It tells you to 'adopt a certain style to ensure the DPF is cleaned automatically.' And advises you to drive for 15 minutes in 2nd or 3rd gear at 1800-2500 rpm. It's only if the warning light doesn't go out that you need to have it checked out.0
