Boiler Replacement Price Advice

Hi Everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster! I am looking for some advice re: a boiler replacement as mine bust a few days ago.

The job is replacing a condensing combi boiler with a new one, in the very same place with associated pipework, cleaning the system and fitting a filter (Magnaclean).

I have obtained 4 quotes, 3 of which are around the £2200 mark for a Worcester 28CDi, or £2100 for a similar Vaillant. One from BG which was ~£500 more! The best quote is £2189 for a Worcester 28 CDi with Worcester filter, Worcester wireless thermostat and flushout/treatment with Fernox.

Looking around the web it seems like this boiler costs about £1100, which leaves another £1100 for parts/labour. I appreciate that there'll be bits and bobs to buy, but even for a two day job, £550 a day seems expensive? Maybe this is just how much it costs in todays economy...

Am I being totally ripped off here or is this a fair price for this job these days?Any advice most appreciated. Thanks!

Cheers

I wouldn't say it was a bad price and I'd pick the vaillant quote

Looks about right. As well as the boiler you also need a flue kit, £50-200 depending on the design required.

VAT is £400. So your £1100 for two days now becomes £600.
  • Great. Thanks for the replies so far, good to know its about right. Good point about the flue kit, you're right that £600 seems a much more reasonable labour rate!

    Cheers.
  • For anyone else in my position reading this, I eventually got the whole lot done for £1440, including boiler (Worcester 30i), flue, installation and the system flush. Done in a day and very neat and tidy. I found the company via eBay so my advice is look on there. Also I'm in the Bristol area and they came from Cardiff so look outside your own town if you cant find a good price!

Think carefully about paying a grand for installation!
