I have always worried about what people would think of me/us if we didn't live in a decent postcode or have the best car etc, but those things suddenly seem so unimportant.

I HAVEN'T USED MY CREDIT CARDS FOR ALMOST A MONTH!!!

I can really see that this could actually be a positive experience for us in the long term.

This is the way I used to think too but I soon realised that:
    People that matter don't mind
    People that mind don't matter

No credit cards :T me too it feels good doesn't it?

Relationship wise ours has really turned a corner too after us finally accepting that we needed to pull together if this is going to work. Long may it continue eh Dan :)

So nice to see you more upbeat and positive.

  • You've made brilliant strides this month, when you have your down moments look back at this post to remind yourself what you've achieved in just 1 month.

    Huge well done

The fact your now working as a team means your relationship for the future will just carry on growing rather than you feeling burdened.

I definitely think sometimes going through situations like this helps to put things into perspective, material things suddenly become less important but family and enjoying life do.

I've been dipping in and out of your diary Dan and it's so nice to see you making such amazing progress just one month in.

So much of what you post rings true with me.

I'm so pleased that your relationship with your wife has improved - to me, that's the biggest achievement of all (with the £1600 in close second!).

    All the best.

Thanks JoJoC. It is a good feeling for us to be working together on this. I have spent so long seeing it as my problem. I only wish I had opened up to her a couple of years ago when the debts were a lot less.

Best morning so far! Got up feeling fairly normal, drove to work with the radio on, not thinking about money.

My main focus has to be my work now. I haven't been on top of my game at work, not to the extent where anyone else would have noticed, but I definitely need to pull my finger out and find my work mojo again, afterall, my job is my main route out of this debt!

It's all settling down now - you know what you have put in place works, and so the worry should naturally start to subside as a result. Sometimes the only thing that truly reassures us is seeing the figures - and KNOWING that they prove that we're heading in the right direction.

    well done!

  • Hi Dan, thanks for reaching out to me directly, I tried to reply, I actually wrote you a war and peace reply, only to discover that your inbox is full and I couldn't send it :-)

My wife too gets fed up with me keep talking about the budget, and I'm going to try to keep it to just once a week. Glad that your anxiety is improving, I've just come off of medication and mine has gone through the roof again, so I may need to consider going back on, I will see how it goes with exercise and yoga for a month or so first.
