VCR question for 83 year old

I bought a ONN Digital TV Recorder with 160gb hd and twin tuners from Asda yesterday for £90. Never seen one so easy to set up, didn't take me 10 mins late at night when tired.

It has a red button for immediate record, and also you can look at the guide and press record on the program and it does that. Sure she will handle it, does not have to worry about space on the tape either and you can either show he how to delete to clean it up once a blue flood with that amount of storage.

Even my DH could handle it (and that is rare).

Edit: - See you have gone round this route above. In that case either Freecycle for a Video to just watch her old ones with the above, or a second hand/cashconverters shop?

The VR550 doesn't have VideoPlus, as stated earlier. The VR750 does, but is out of stock.(Though they are still offering them on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B0002TTQWC ) The Combi does.
Does her combination unit have VideoPlus?

I have a VCR next to me here, I was gonna put it on a car boot.

It's a Toshiba and I'll try and hunt out the instruction booklet and tell you if it's got Video Plus etc...

I live in Coleshill, Birmingham (well, 11 miles east of Brum, but my postcode is Birmingham ).

Just found the Manual and it's a Toshiba V-241UK with VideoPlus.

We don't know anyone with a combi VCR/DVD recorder who can put them onto disk for her.

Funnily enough, I run that service myself. My site is www.allowus.co.uk

I've only recently set it up, so if you are interested in getting any tapes converted to disc (for backup or convenience purposes :rolleyes:), please PM me (the price list on my site is just a "test" one, I'm open to offers).

Alternatively (or as well as) - the offer to pick up my VCR for free still stands :beer:

There used to be some cheap freeview vcr's about, but they are a little difficult to come by, because everyone has moved to hard disk/DVD recording.

Thanks Albert but I don't understand the information given in that link. Lots of numbers but I don't know what they're telling me . According to the freeview site her postcode is only getting BBC out of the main channels at the moment.

Thanks for that information Donnie, saves me looking it up.

And yes, my thanks button has worked sometimes, and I've also thanked people in my replies to their posts when I've quoted them so I'm not ungrateful.

Some of the posts on here have not been directed to me, they're answering someone else or are not connected with my original question, i.e. floppy disks and VHS tapes.

I sit corrected! I spotted that device (or a similar model also from Panasonic) a couple of days after my last post; Freeview (DVB), DVD-recording, Hard Disc recording and VHS deck all in one box. Tidy job, Panasonic.
