Replace water valve in toilet

Hello I need advice on replaceing the flushing flap/control in the tank of my toilet. It is the old-style kind not the US type. It is a box with a pipe going up and then bending back down.
To me, it looks like I need to take the tank off and remove a large nut from the bottom and replace the valve. Is this easy and what tools will I need?
thanks,

easy job and only simple tools required. a decent pr of plumbers WP pliers or grips will be helpful.
assuming its a close coupled system then yes the tank has to come off.
worst part is usually replacing the cw feedpipe with no leaks. copper to plastic has a habit of leaking. take care.Get some gorm.0
