Monitor trouble

I think it's beyond repair but I'm hoping someone may know what's up and give me a clue?
When I turn the monitor on (LCD) the power light comes on and stays on but the image disappears: it just flashes up for less than a second.
If I keep turning it on/off eventually it stays on, it's driving me nuts.
I think I need a new one but before splashing out I thought I'd ask if anyone knows what may be wrong please. Once it's working it stays working until I turn it off; it seems a shame to get a new one but it took me 1/2 an hour to get it to stay on today (almost threw the thing).
Anyone think of anything I can do to maybe fix it before I give up?
Thanks

Assuming it isn't the switch or power supply, it's more than likely the backlight failing. How old is it, what's the brand, as many good quality brands have at least 3 year warranties.

Husband did say just leave it on: I'm worried that if it has a fault that this may not be safe though?
It's about 3 years old so not that new.
It came with the PC and doesn't have any branding apart from "designed by dadam" I'd say it's pretty far from being good quality; probably the cheapest available to make up the pc package.
I suppose it's just had its day. Seems a shame though when once it's on it's fine; only took 6 tries to get it to stay on this am.:rotfl:
Husband just says we get get a better bigger one now but it seems a waste. I hate to bin things that aren't totally useless: such a waste. Perhaps I'll have to buy another and see if a freecycler thinks they can fix it.
  • have you check the vga lead is secure at both ends with no bent pins?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
