Going through a red light & police car

You are probably safe if you carefully edged SLOWLY over the white line JUST enough to let the police car through. There is often enough room to do this without the danger of conflicting with traffic that has priority. If you had gone all the way through the junction it would have been both dangerous AND risked being caught on camera.0

I sent GMP a message on facebook.
Their reply was a little longer but the last paragraph says:
They have said I may need to appeal it but it looks pretty promising....
If you were moving to let an emergency vehicle pass then you will not be fined.
Incase anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. So you will get a FPN and will have to go to court to argue it. To do that you will need to get evidence that you moved out of the way for an emergency vehicle, did not endanger yourself or any other road users by doing it and the magistrate must be in a good mood to let you off? Could be expensive either way.
The police are not in any position to say the courts will turn a blind eye to a road traffic violation. There is no legislation that allows an ordinary road user to break the law in a situation such as this.0
