Hi All,
Please can someone advise me.
I have had the Barclays travel pack as part of my account for a number of years and traveled on many holidays using the policy provided.
In November my mother booked a trip to New York for my and my sister at the end of next Month (we leave in approx 5 weeks time). Unfortunately in the mean time i have been diagnosed with gall stones and am waiting for an op to have the bladder removed. Consultant has cleared me to travel.
I rang Barclays to let them know and they decided that they don't cover this condition.
Isn't this the point of travel insurance? I'm fuming I've had this policy for a number of years and abided by the rules and they have let me down. They have offered me cancellation insurance but when i said my mother paid they declined this aswell.
What do i do next? Presumable its cancel this travel pack entirely and get separate travel insurance with someone that will insure with gall stones?
Is there any come back with Barclays?
Thanks

They have not let you down!,you have pre-existing conditions that most Travel Insurance would not cover, how much do think it would cost to treat you in NewYork if your condition flares up again.
You are correct you will have to get additional insurance that will cover your condition and that wont be cheap. As for cancellation insurance your mother ould take that out as she paid and will the one out of pocket if you cannot go.0 -
Were you trying to get them to cover gall bladder problems you might have while away, or to make a claim because of having to cancel?
I don't think you'll be able to get cover for gall bladder problems while you're away. All quotes ask at the beginning if you're awaiting tests or treatment.
I had my gall bladder out nearly three years ago, I had no trouble afterwards with insurance - IIRC it asks if the surgery was more than three weeks ago and if I've had any problems since. I don't think it adds to my premium.
The other problem you'll have with it is that you're going to the US. If I wanted to go there it'd add about £100 to my yearly premium.
I'm not sure if even declaring it but not having it covered would be an option, if you were prepared to take the risk, because of it being in the 'assumptions' you have to answer on the first page of a quote.
Is it possible to move your trip to after your op? It might be a cheaper option depending on the booking t&cs.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
