Kobo Aura H2O; this after owning a few different types inc. Kobo, Kindle and Nook.
Not the cheapest but:
Bigger screen (6.8" with good 1430x1080 resolution too) yet not too heavy.
Backlight.
Waterproof (= safe to read in the bath).
PLUS it has a micro SD card slot - you don't even need to connect a cable to your computer.
PS:
IMHO Calibre is the easiest way to make sure all you want to read is compatible with the Kobo.
I am not recommending this supplier but for example:

Worth every penny IMHO.0 -
I did manage speak with someone at Smiths over the phone this afternoon and they have confirmed its now discontinued, in a way i am glad to have found out before i bought one, its very odd its been discontinued so soon. I cannot justify spending so much out on the Aura H20, so it looks like i will have to get a Kindle Paperwhite, as the cheaper Kindle and Kobo models dont have backlight screens. thanks for all the help anyway. one thing i wont be doing though is registering it with amazon.0

Fair enough though I warn you, I once said the same.
It also depends how much you read I suppose, and I read loads.0
