Do Tesco get arsey.......

......if you just leave one current account with £3000 sitting in it? Got our cards for our second account yesterday, I haven't even looked at the PIN as I don't need another debit card. However, I do try to use the first account we opened as a bank account, rather than a savings account.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

  • I doubt it - can't see why they would. I've opened 2 of these accounts and intend to just leave £3000 sat in both.

I did get an email from Tesco the other day though, asking me if everything was ok as they'd noticed I'd not used my new debit card :D

I just make a small debit card transaction for a couple of quid every month or two - on all such accounts, not just Tesco. Better safe than sorry.

I just rotate the debit cards in my wallet, 2 Tesco, 3 BOS and 1 TSB, and use them for withdrawing cash and any DC payments I have to make so each gets used every few months. They will all be getting used a bit more often now that the TSB cashback has ended,

Is there something in the T&Cs that say you must use the debit card?
Or make a minimum number of transactions?

I've kept £3000 in each for a couple of years - I occasionally pass money through the accounts but have never used the debit cards.

I've left £3000 sat in two accounts for about 3 months now earning the interest. Never carried out any other transactions. Hadn't even considered that it might be a problem but you've all got me worried now!

I Opened 2 current account about 2 weeks before they suspended new account opening.
I also received an e-mail from them asking if all was ok as the debit card had not been usd.
  • I've certainly not read anything anywhere that says you MUST use your debit card.

No but equally they need not offer you an account and indeed say they'll review your account from time to time to make sure they continue to want to offer you the facilities.
