Hit and run, third party who's trader claiming vehicle was sold?

I'm so sick and stress right now. I don't believe for one second that they really sold the car to someone else and even if they did, the car was still insured at the time of the incident, so the third party should be paying out for my car damages and chase their policyholder to reclaim the fees paid. - This is a scenario that no innocent driver having to go through, now it seems like I will have to go through my insurance, pay my excess, never see that back, lose my ncb and suffer for good few years, no fault of my own with higher insurance premiums, it's absolute disgrace.
The car isn't owed by like a big garage or anything, most likely an individual with a small setup that either sells and fix cars at their home or at some kind of workshop unit/ general backstreet repair/servicing garage.
The car is a really old renault megane, 2004 plate and there was some little idiots in the car when it happened.
Hopefully I get some good news next week but I'm doubtful now. I told them I'm not willing to let it pass, they are awaiting to see what invoice the third party provides them and I will be asking them to thoroughly examine the so called new owner invoice.
They obviously must of thought cheap banger, no skin off their noise act like the car was sold but they should be liable as the car was still showing as insured on the policy and It wasn't cancelled prior to the incident.0 -
I used to sell Motor Trade Insurance, Tradex have quite a reputation and tend to attract traders who sell / work from home.
I suspect what has happened is thus.
Many of these traders will cover their friends as named drivers as the policy covers them to drive any car.(Often the trader will do this and add some profit for themselves to the extra cost) The friend / associate has had an accident with you and panicked driven away.
Additional drivers on Motor Trade policy have a huge amount of restrictions placed on them as the Insurers want to avoid covering someone who is not genuinely working for the trader.
I may be wrong and the car may have genuinely been sold etc.0 -
I have actually had a client who was a trader who was in the same position and was insured by Tradex.
A vehicle he sold was involved in an accident a couple of days after he sold it and while it was still on the MID. The vehicle did not end up being registered in the buyers name as the log book got lost in the post when the trader sent it off to the DVLA
After a long time, Tradex appointed investigators who interviewed by client about the car sale, asked for as many details about the buyer as possible (To help them try and track him down) and took copies of the sales invoice (Which had an address for the buyer that was no good).
Tradex got now where with the tracing and eventually paid out.
The trader learned a lesson about being thorough with his paper work and also started taking copies of I.D for any buyers0 -

Yes I thought this to be the case tbh, will push my handler to ask all sorts of questions, such as seeing if there are any named drivers named on the car and if possible to provide latest photographic images of those listed on the car as named drivers - but I doubt this will happen to see if i can identify any of those who were in the car at the time because the driver swapped seats with someone else and they drove off.
That's unfortunately for that person you know, especially if they genuine sold the car, wonder if I can request a FOI from third party to see how many investigations have they done in similar circumstances which can be used to warrant such request that they do the same with my situation, they should have a legal obligation to make sure all information provided by their policy holder in similar circumstances is fully investigated before washing their hands off it and taking their word leaving the innocent driver involved having to suffer from selfishness and negligence of others.
I'm pretty sure if someone was seriously injured or worse dead, in the same scenario i'm facing they would fully investigate so it shouldn't be any different.0 -

Well in that case the police would throw money at it, but in the case of a damage only it's not going to happen.0 -
In regards to MIB, now this was a while back and I cant remember all the details.
My daughter we in a accident a while back where a driver hit the side of her car near the back causing her to spin and crash into both crash barriers at each side of the road, the police were told by a witness that the driver did stop, but that once he saw my daughter get out the car he sped off, the police never found out who it was.
Her car was a write off, she had comprehensive insurance, she claimed and received a pay out from MIB for losses she incurred and injury compensation (fortunately it was only a broken wrist) I cant remember now what all the pay out was for, I am pretty sure excess etc. were amongst it, so OP if you cant get any satisfaction from the insurance company's I don't think it would be a bad idea to claim MIB and see what happens, nothing ventured and all that0 -

If you'd bothered to read the thread you'd see things have changed since then.0 -
I did read the thread, no one said that things had changed from a while back, just sometimes people get things wrong (me in this case for example) I was going by a past experience and thought it would be worthwhile OP giving it a bash, I now see they changed their policy after August 2015, why not just say that instead of making a smart a## comment about myself not reading the thread0

DLD's daughter claimed from her comprehensive policy for her damage and claimed her uninsured losses eg injuries and loss of earnings etc from the MIB.
The OP can do the same thing.0
