Financial Associates removal.

Hi again guys,

Quick question. Just done my experian credit report and it still has reference to a couple of loans my ex took out about 8 years ago. I have not been with my ex for over 6 years now and these accounts will be long gone.

Now I understand that these can be asked to be removed but the problem I have is I still have a mortgage with my ex. Currently trying to get my name removed from it (which is another story).

I have no credit agreements with my ex apart from this mortgage. Will I be able to get these references removed?? They are for 2 loans she took out 8 years ago and have nothing to do with me, especially now.

Thanks

You won't be able to remove the association while you still have a joint mortgage. I'm not sure what you mean by it has reference to a couple of loans? Where these joint loans?
  • A joint financial account such as mortgage will create an association. However, even when you have no joint accounts the CRAs will continue to publish information about you stating that you are financially associated, even though you aren't. You then have to get on to all three of the CRAs in the UK and tell them to remove the association and to stop lying about your finances.

Try and explain a bit more.

It appears she took two loans out.

On my credit report it lists her twice... Once with her first and second name and once with her middle initial in her name.

Now the 1st instance has 3 records in it... all for the same thing! It is for Picture Finance and I have no idea what is... I didn't even know she had taken this loan out. It was in 2007 which is around the time we broke up and I moved out. This is not a joint account and just says im associated.

The second association has 4 records in it... 1 for our Mortgage which I expect to be there and then 3 for the same Cahoot loan she took out in 2006 as a joint account. These 3 Cahoot ones all have different dates at 1 month intervals. (I know this loan was paid off)

Is there anyway I can remove the two loans which I have nothing to do with anymore and just keep the mortgage on there...?

I assume you are taking this information from the associations part of your report. If this is the case the only issue here is that you are financially associated. The only action you need to take is to get out of any joint credit agreements with your ex and then speak to all 3 CRA'S to have the association removed.

Financial associations can only be created on accounts that are in joint names unless an active account is changed to be in a sole name the link will remain. The CRA is reporting what the lenders have stated and whilst you still have an active account (mortgage). It isn't the number of accounts that create links that is important, just that you have an active account that links you.

Once your removed off the mortgage you can break the link. The historical data for the joint accounts will start falling off your file after the entries are 6 years old.

The entries for the joint accounts (not the mortgage) are 10 years old but are still on my file.

1 of the accounts is not join and I never even knew it existed never mind had anything to do with it. The other was paid off and is over 10 years old.

I may be naive in thinking this but my financial associations on the report should only display the mortgage association?

Ok so after reading some of the replies.... It does not matter what accounts are on the associated persons list just that you are associated with that person?

So even if the other accounts are removed the link through the mortgage exists and therefore makes no difference if the other accounts links are removed when applying for credit?

When you are associated it will link both of your files, not just the one thing you have in common.

    Yeah I understand that.

Just wondering why accounts from over 10 years ago are on anyone's reports never mind mine? The Cahoot one that is showing in my linked associates was closed in 2007... it should not even be on her account never mind mine.
