Defaulted accounts now 6 years on

Options
Hi, I defaulted on a number of credit card accounts around 6 years ago. I have been paying a minimal agreed amount each and every month arranged by the CAB at the time. 3 accounts have run the 6 year period and although I understand I still owe the money, they shouldn't show on my credit rating, (I understand). 2 more expire at the end of February 2017.

My question is whether I need to contact one of the agencies to remove from my credit rating or do they drop off on their own? I am now hoping to start building my credit score with a new card and pay it off every month.

Thanks.
