Car Accident - Paying for damage - Third Party haven't told their insurance..?

Just a quick post...

I had an accident before Xmas.

I accepted liability as it seems I drove out over a giveway line - car hit from my right rear end and damaged their front end passenger side.

Anyway - quote will prob be £600 - Ive advised my insurance I'll pay for damage. Maybe should not have admitted liability but at the time it seemed very minor damage - in face very little at all. It appears there is a lot more than I thought.

My insurance contacted the third party - told me they were legally obliged to do so and offered their services - the other side have agreed its fine if I pay for damage and leave it at that. My insurance have confirmed this was their response.

My insurance in the last phone call though, have said that once the repairs are done they will need confirmation from the other party that the work is finished and will then remove this from the system - so not affecting my NCB - esp. considering they are not out of pocket in anyway.

I had previously been advised if I put through the claim I'd lose 6 years NCB so decided against this.

I am 99% sure the other party have not told their insurers (and indeed had advised me at the time not too go though insurance though I wasn't happy with this) about the accident - so I'm wondering is the fact Ive paid the damage and got invoices etc.. not usually enough to have the whole thing settled and we can all move on...?

I would think that was proof I paid the bill - why do the other side need to advise this also and if they are not going to let their insurance know about the incident then where does this leave me?

I realize I will have to declare this for the next however many years - but given some quotes Ive done already it doesnt seem I'll be too badly affected next year.

Any thoughts on this...? Never been in this situation before.

Thanks a lot....:)

Strange story. Could be that the TP have no insurance?

What advice are you asking for? Seems the horse has already bolted.

The other side need to tell your insurer that they are making no further claim, otherwise you could just get the claim closed without paying them.

The most likely reason that they were keen not to involve insurance is because they know that their insurance will increase for years because of an accident, even one that is not their fault.

They didn't want you to tell yours either, because insurers are now very sneaky, and before paying out a claim they check whether the policyholder has been involved in any undeclared claims or accidents, and then try to void their insurance, and avoid paying out.

(They could easily check "The Computer" when the policy is taken out but they don't bother, as this way works out better for them, and insurance contracts are entered into in "good faith")

Now the TP know that you notified your insurer, then they will have to notify theirs, so they will likely claim for whiplash, replacement car hire, bus fares etc. as well. (Which is what your insurer is afraid of)

Keeping it away from insurers is against the terms of the policy, but is often done to avoid massive policy increases and loss of no-claims on both sides.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Facade is right. If only cosmetic damage, it's best not to tell either insurance, and settle money between yourselves. But you already have told your insurance, so you will have to declare it in future. Insurance Co.s are are indeed very sneaky.
Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?

    To update my post.

I very unexpectedly got a phone call from my insurance today saying they are happy to close this now as they were told by the Tp that I'd pay the damage.

I asked about future personal injury claims and they said that they had 'asked the right questions' ie the TP have confirmed they were not injured and that this 'is now recorded in the phone call and can be used against them if they try to claim in future' so basically telling me to relax it won't happen and to get a receipt for the repairs to 'keep in a safe place' for the future but my insurance don't need copies.

The other side by the way are definitely insured as this had been confirmed.

So hopefully once I've paid the repairs this will be the end of it all.

    I'm hoping.

Its all definitely a weird one I would also have liked to get a quote myself considering the other side can't do anything from here in as theyve confirmed they want me to pay.. Their mechanic is certainly in no rush to get the work done.. If it was me I'd have wanted this sorted ages ago.

By the way in previous different post a lot of replies were advising me to tell my insurance.

But besides all that I wanted everything out in the open.
