Hi, I want to move my home phone line away from SKY.
When I input my postcode and phone number on the Post Office site I keep getting the following error-
"We really want to help you proceed with your order but we're encountered a temporary error."
But if I input a friend's number it goes through to the ordering stage.
I just wanted to ask if there is something specific about a Sky phone line that is preventing me going through this automatic ordering ?
Thanks

Ok, i think I've sussed it out. Because I asked Sky to cancel my broadband, they've put a block on the line for the next 31 days ! Would've been easier just going direct to Post Office before saying anything to Sky...argg!! Now I'm faced with another hour on the painfully slow Sky Chat :-(0

If the cancellation goes through for any reason the Post Office will possibly charge you for starting the line up again (I think Open Reach or BT charge them), from memory this is up to £200? Never cancel your broadband and telephone line if you're switching providers.0

Thanks,
So am I better doing this -
1. Tell Sky I want to keep the phone line and broadband
2. Go to post office and order phone line package (No broadband)
3. Post Office says roughly 2 weeks for change over
3. They inform Sky of the move.
4. Sky cancel my phone contract - is this on the day of the switchover?
5. Then all I owe Sky after the switchover date is my notice period on phoneline and broadband.
Are the Sky phone and broadband contracts automatically ended by this method or do I still have to get back in touch with Sky?
Thanks !0 -

You need to stop the cancellation with Sky first and foremost, don't agree any new contract obviously unless they give you a good deal.
Then subscribe with The Post Office if you wish, they'll manage the switch over although it's always worth checking with Sky at some point to make sure no one has messed up.0 -
Don't tell them you want to keep or that could be misconstrued as accepting another contract. Just say you are going to look at other options.
Then contact your chose supplier (you do realise that Post office is actually the TalkTalk service ?) and they will take it from there for you.Contract and payments for each company will begin and end on changeover day.
I would call Sky to discuss stopping the cancellation, as many 'chat' staff are abroad and can misunderstand what you are requesting. I was told that few call centres are foreign and that they only them at very busy times or during unsociable hours)0 -
To be honest, I haven't done a lot of research into the different phone line rental companies. I really just want the cheapest as it's something we only use for incoming calls nowadays.0
