Hi guys
The AC adaptor jack on my Lenovo Z50 appears to have come loose and as a result the laptop will no longer accept any power. There is some light damage to that area of the laptop from where on at least two occasions someone (me) has accidentally trodden on the charger near the jack while it has been plugged in, but I think all that needs doing is opening up the laptop and reattaching the the jack wherever it has come loose. It's possible the part might need replacing as well but I'm not sure.
What kind of price should I be looking for if I take it to a local repair shop? I've looked at a couple of disassembly videos and quite a few bits need to be taken out and I assume there will be some soldering involved, but I don't think it should take an experience technician any more than half an hour to an hour. So I'm thinking £30 would be a good deal and £50 would be getting quite expensive, plus the cost of the part if one is required. What do you think?
Thanks

I've seen quotes of around £80 presuming the connector can be soldered and the motherboard has not been damaged - I'd say nearer 2 hours, having pulled a few laptops apart, but as you say, maybe if it's your day job it could be done quicker0

Iv seen this so many times . .
This could go either of 2 ways.
Either you are lucky, and the jack has just come away from the motherboard a bit, in which case it can be soldered back on.
More likely is that it has knackered that corner of your motherboard and split one or more of the tracks, meaning new motherboard.
If its the first one, the repair is fiddly and means stripping your laptop to do it .. And it also means sourcing the part which may or may not be hard to do (Might be pretty standard or totally bespoke)
I think you will be lucky if you can get it done for £50 to be honest, its just one of those jobs that's horrible to do.
If its the second option, then its a scrapper in my book0 -
soldered jack sockets are from the last century, they plug in to the motherboard. It's more likely to be damage (pins, adapter, wire) than unattached, the chassis holds it in place and takes the strain. Parts are available if needed
Businesses have costs over and above £30, which have to be paid whether you turn up with a laptop or not, so your anticipated cost is very optimistic, do it yourselfDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
a friend has just had one repaired in a local computer repair shop, it was under £30 ,0

I was going say this should be quite cheap, but I fear the Lenovo Z50 is one of those that's made to look like a fake Macbook and from what I can tell they're not as serviceable as the Thinkpad T series.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Service manuals can be downloaded from Lenovo so you can see what is involved in taking it apart. 1-2hrs labour charge plus cost of part is not unreasonable. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Usually the power is on a small separate PC. look for the part for the model on eBay, I got one with Power and USB for about £8 but mine is different brand. Please be nice to all MoneySavers.
