Got home to find a couple of tiles missing off roof - we are going to use the emergency cover from our bank cards, but do we need to inform the insurer, as its a different company?

The home emergency cover would only cover making the property safe.
You'd need to claim off your home insurer or self insure to make good again.
To answer your question, your wording would probably say to inform them of anything that could give rise to a claim.
People on here will probably advise caution over doing that, as it could increase premiums in years to come.0
