RAC Breakdown mid year cancellation

Hi

Has anyone else tried to cancel their RAC breakdown cover (mid year) and been told they would forfeit all the pro-rata return premium if they did so?

There are 7 months remaining on the policy and this is what I have been told.

This is not to be confused with an admin fee for cancelling. Any input greatly received.

RAC's current T&Cs say:

If your policy period is more than 30 days, you can cancel your policy within the cooling off period, being 14 days from the start date or the date you receive your policy documents, whichever happens later.

After this cooling off period you can still cancel but we will not refund any premium to you.

Unless they offered you different t&cs when you signed up, it's pretty clear that they won't refund any of your premium.

You bought a years breakdown cover and you get a years breakdown cover.

Cancel early and there is usually no refund. Good news is that unlike car insurance you dont normally have to pay extra to cancel.

RAC once allowed me suspend my cover for a couple of years, when I bought a new car that had its own cover. Later on I then restarted it. But this was along time ago and it's policies may have changed.
