Found a CCJ I was unaware of...

Hello, and apologies if this has been written before. Basically my credit card stopped working, upon calling them they told me they reviewed my credit file, found something on it and cancelled my cards. They wouldn't explain what they found. Upon looking at my file I see a CCJ has been put on my account in December at Northampton county court.
I'm still trying to find out who this is from (working in Andorra, Internet limited) but I've not had any documents sent to my address over the past 3 years. I can only think this is an old debt bought by a 3rd party from when I used to live in my old town over 12 years ago.
What I'd like to know now are my options, any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Any debt or defaulted accounts become statute barred (unenforceable) after 6 years since they were closed (or since you last acknowledged the debt).
So either a company has pursued you for a debt they're not allowed to pursue, or it's a debt from the last 6 years which you've failed to pay.0 -
First port to hit will be to get a copy of your credit files from all three agencies and to request a copy of the CCJ from the court. If you are abroad, both those things become problematic, so best use an agent (can be a family member) who is in the UK to send and receive mail for you.0

If you have looked at your file how do you not know who has obtained the ccj against you?
If you have obtained a copy of your credit file and held a UK credit card then you must have a UK address.
Presumably you have access to post received at that address.
It is highly unlikely that anybody would have gone for a ccj without first attempting to contact you.
Do your credit files show any defaulted accounts?
It is highly improbable that somebody would have just obtained a ccj in respect of a 12 year old default.
I am also slightly surprised that your credit card provider would have cancelled a properly maintained credit card account without notice simply due to the appearance of this ccj.
PS. What's wrong with the internet in Andorra?0 -
The credit report does not show the claimant, just the court, court reference, amount, date of judgement,.
So... phone the court, ask them who the claimant was and see if they can email the particulars of claim to you. The judgement itself won't tell you much about what the debt was; the particulars of claim should do; though even that may be a bit brief
The credit report would also show the address used and a claim would have been sent to that address. There should have been at least one letter before court claim but this does not always happen.
Debt buyers start court claims against really old debts quite a lot; particularly Cabot and Lowell; most claims go undefended so they get a ccj in default.
Sometimes you can tie up a ccj with the relating credit file entry - the ccj amount is a bit higher due to court costs. But if this was a really old debt and defaulted more than 6 years ago it wouldn't show.
If you want to go for set aside you should read this

Do you actually live in Dundee? If so, a CCJ isn't likely to be valid. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Thanks for that advice, as you have said there is no info regarding who the claimant is. I have emailed the court and asked for info regarding the case number. The address provided on the file is an old address I haven't lived at for over 12 years.
We shall see what happens next.0 -
Just because you haven't lived there for 12 years, doesn't mean its stat barred, it depends on the last activity. You say you've had documents longer than 3 years ago that is less than 6.0
