People have enough headaches and expense sorting out failing displays on climate controls and audios as the cars age, but at least the car can still be driven with these things failing, if the whole dashboard was digital that could well make the car an economic write off at a very early age.0

Which may well be what the manufacturers would like. Cars are now "old shed" at 3 years old, a few decades ago a car was still relatively new at 10 years old.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I'd prefer a configurable HUD. Which is available on some top-end stuff - but ideally would allow me to put a virtual speedo in the corner or wherever I want it.
What I'd really like is a HUD satnav - that says "turn left" and puts a cursor on the junction so I know exactly which of the identical narrow streets I'm aiming for. That would need more computing power to update as I approached though.
AS for the rest of the interior - isn't about time the advances in material technology (plus paints and dyestuffs) offered something other than grey plastic and random bits of veneer and chrome?I need to think of something new here...0 -
When I first bought my 58 plate Civic I thought the dash display stuff was amazing, but when you actually look at it, the bit behind the steering wheel is just a big rev needle with a fuel and temp dial either side - lit blue to look a bit different, with trip computer display layered on top of centre of rev needle to make it appear floating, and kinda 3D. very effective, but very basic in reality.
I did like the digital speed display above the steering wheel...0 -

'78/79ish 2400 Pallas C-Matic. Gorgeous. And recently, too - still got it?

Sadly no. That isn't mine, just a pic off the web. Mine was an X reg, ex-Citoen UK, GTi manual and I really wish I had never sold it.

I have had a lot of cars that I sold, that I really really wish I still had now.
Trouble is, I sold them for good reason at the time* (usually to do with a dustpan & brush)
What we mean is we wish we had some of the cars we used to own, but in showroom condition :rotfl:
*there is always something wrong with a second hand car, or it wouldn't be for saleI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
