Mobility car

Hi folks,

Anyone know what is it that makes you qualify for a mobility car? my partner has chronic pain and is finding it hard to even walk a few steps these days.

Also how do you apply for it?

Thanks in advanced.

People use the mobility element of their DLA/PIP to pay for the car

Enhanced rate mobility PIP or high rate DLA is needed for this.

As has been advised she will have to be in receipt of Enhanced Mobility and either Standard or Enhanced Care to qualify for a car AND retain the right for you to claim Carers Allowance.

You're wrong here. You don't need Enhanced Rate Daily living (or care) as you put it to qualify for Mobility car. Neither do you need Enhanced Daily living to quealify for Carers Allowance. Any rate of Daily Living PIP will be just fine for Carers.

    You have misread my post.
I never said anything about the care element being needed for mobility - she already gets that.

To keep their Carers Allowance claim as well as the Income Support one AND qualify for a mobility car - she will have to have awarded Enhanced Mobility and either Enhanced or Standard Care.
  • Hi folks just checked paperwork and my partner recieves the standard rate of daily living and the enchanced rate of mobility. dose this mean she has the nesscary means to apply for a mobility car? thank again

yes, you use the mobility component to hire the motability car (you stop receiving the money and it goes to motability instead)

Take a look at the mobility website link in the above post it will explain everything to you. All you need to do is choose which car you would like, ring a few dealers to arrange some test drives to see which car suites the needs the best. Take driving license/s of all people wishing to drive the car, PIP award letter with you and the dealers will sort everything else out for you.
  • Thanks alot guys very helpfull
  • When you arrange test drives make sure it's for as long as possible don't let the dealers fob you off with either a 10 minute drive or there test drive route as that generally lasts 10 minutes or so.

The reason I'm suggesting the above is to make sure it fits your Motability needs and that is also does everything you want it to also if you use any walking aid like a wheelchair take it with you to make sure it fits in the boot.
