Advice on Consumer Rights when dealing with Jewellers

Hi,

So I finally made the decision to get engaged at Xmas, I am old fashioned so picked and bought the ring myself knowing my partner would prefer this.

Anyway unfortunately the ring was not the correct size (too small) and had to be resized but the jeweller advised me this would not be an issue and to bring my Fiance and the ring back down after I proposed and he would send it to get resized.

All good so far, I proposed, she fell in love with the ring and we took it back down the jeweller on 28th December when they reopened to measure her finger, send away and get resized.

We waited about 2weeks and got the call to say the ring was ready, collected it and it fit perfect.

On having it back 1 whole day I got a call from my Fiance in histerics to say 1 of the diamonds had fell out of the ring and was lost, as it was a weekend we went straight down on Monday, the lady working for the jeweller was very apologetic and said she would send it to get repaired and mark it as urgent.

I have been waiting 6 weeks now for the ring to return, I have visited the jewellers twice, the first time I was just told it was not ready and last week the actual jeweller told me some story about they were having issues matching the colour of the diamond.

I feel really bad about this as I bought the ring and feel I am being messed about.

I would be grateful if anyone could offer me any advice as to what course of action I should take next.

Ideally we would like the ring back but have been waiting too long.

Am I entitled to a refund?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd suggest you carry on waiting. The explanation for the delay sounds reasonable, and while repairs should not cause you significant inconvenience I really don't think being without a ring for a few weeks is that big a problem. If they say they are unable to match the diamond then you could push for a refund at that stage.
