No credit file

Options
Hi,

Had a bit of a weird thing happen. I signed up for the free credit report but don't seem to have a file!

I double checked with experian but they didn't really help much. They say i may have a 'thin file' i.e. they don't have any info on me but i have a mortgage, CC, mobile etc. Married with kids. I don't know how they can't have these details.
The other reason is that my details are wrong but i've gone through and double checked them and everything is ok. I've not recently moved either.

Can't understand how I don't have a file. Has anyone else experienced this?

I checked with equifax and they managed to get my information. Just not sure why experian can't. Quite annoying, i can't use any of the new MSE credit file features!

Thanks in advance for any help

    Issues with your address maybe?

Do/did you live in a flat? They tend to cause far more issues than they should.

There are three credit agencies, and not all lenders report to all three of them. Some only report to one or two.

So you may find that you were just unfortunate enough to get all your credit from lenders which don't report to Experian, in which case they will be blind to any credit you've ever had.

Go on Noddle and sign up for the free service with them. Callcredit is behind that and they're the only other agency. I suspect you may have files with at least two agencies. I'd be very surprised if it's only one.

There's a list here on MSE which provides an overview of which lenders report to which agencies:

Many report to 2/3 agencies, whilst others report to only one.
  • Thanks for the quick replies!

boo_star yea i live in a flat, that did cause problems with equifax but thankfully they've been resolved.

chappaz Thanks for that link, even stranger is that my mortgage provider only reports to experian and that's the one that has no information on me. My bank reports to all 3. Surely they should have something to make a file for me.
I'll look into Noddle but I signed up to a similar thing called Clearscore and they had a file for me, although i think they maybe get it from equifax.

Do you know if there's a way to somehow prompt them to make a file for me?

I only started checking into it when i was refused a CC but my score on equifax is pretty good. Maybe it still wasn't good enough :(

Your score isnt seen by anyone.
