Maybe the self employed have spent too long on the swings and are now being redirected towards the roundabouts...

The self employed around here dont seem to earn more than 16K anyway, regardless of what you pay them :rotfl:

I'm not self employed, but it hits any dividend income (not just those with limited companies).

    No, I understand.

I suppose he is looking for the easiest targets to squeeze money out of.

I doubt it will be enough, and they will be back for more next year.

I quite enjoyed Hammond's delivery. From dull Politician to stand up comedian.:)

Yeah, and it was fun to pan across to the Labour front bench.

    They are a mirthless lot.

Did anyone follow the driverless vehicle jibe?

And Corbyn the straight man, or should I say, miserable.

His Deputy looked equally gloomy and quietly seethed with rage.

Pathetic from the unelected chancellor. Even higher taxes for those of working age being put straight back into even better standards of care for the older generation who are already the most privileged in the history of the world.

Stamping down on the entrepreneurial, forcing everyone to get in line for low paid employee jobs in pure servitude to the lucky generation like the slaves we are.

Not even a single bone or a scrap thrown to those working in this country despite the tax take reaching levels not seen for decades.

Barely a penny invested in our already crippled transport network and no doubt Hammond and co will still be scratching their heads as to why productivity is so low. Maybe because we all spend four hours a day commuting to our low paid jobs where we get taxed to high heaven to pay for pensioners to live in the lap of luxury, Phil? You know? Maybe the fact we have no job security whatsoever while your corporate buddies pay as little tax as they like lends a certain lack of motivation to the workforce?

Predictably, nothing in it the help those forced to rent and the great British service charges scam doesn't event get a mention.

It's a shambles from a government who have achieved none of their aims and from a chancellor who would never in a million years been elected if only the people were given their democratic right to vote for him.

    Get these incompetent fools out.

I think you'll find that he is elected. By the voters of Runnymede and Weybridge, and by some considerable margin. You don't get to pick who is chancellor; that's the PM's job.

The rest of your post is just a rant.:)

I notice no one is live bloggign the budget on here this year - does this reflect how low expectations are for anything of import to happen?...

    Very probably.

But then I am of the opinion that budgets should be boring. Unless, there is a general election coming up soon, in which case they are supposed to have some excitement to entice the voters.

..For what it is worth the forecast is for debt/gdp to start falling in 18/19, growth this year of 2% and inflation peaking at 2.4% - I reckon all three of these are hugely optimistic.

I don't know whether they are optimistic or pessimistic. But they are probably wrong. Forecasts usually are wrong. Stuff happens.

I am fed up with the BBC. Every day except today they have been moaning that:
    1) There is not enough money for health
    2) There is not enough money for social care for the elderly
    3) Too many people are avoiding tax through the vagaries of the tax system

The govt decide to pay for more of (2) by reducing (3) so today (only) the BBC rather than welcoming the decision attack the govt for (possibly) breaking a manifesto promise on tax increases. Talk about wanting to have one's cake and eat it.
    I think....
